The Manor of Charlton was first mentioned in the Domesday Survey of 1086, and although it is said that merchant Roger Ames built Charlton House for his bride in 1630, architectural details point to a much earlier date.

Owned by Roger and Monty Saul, founders of the Mulberry Company, the house now provides the perfect setting for the Mulberry Home collection of fabrics, furnishings and curios.

Roger and Monty Saul, the creators of the world-renowned Mulberry Design Company, acquired the property in October 1996, and after a whirlwind restoration have transformed it into the ultimate expression of the Mulberry lifestyle. Far from the 'look but don't touch' attitude of many country houses, Charlton now exudes an atmosphere of comfortable, informal splendour, where relaxation comes naturally.

During 2002 the Orangery was completed providing the ideal location for private dining and private meetings. Monty's also opened offering our very personal take on what we feel you need to relax, de-stress and contemplate, using our own, new unique brand of apothecary products.

The couple who run this are charming, both chatty, she loves what she does and seems to treat the house as her 'dolls house' in that everything that it is possible to add as trims, flounces, patterns - its all there! Not to mention the tea/coffee in the rooms and toiletries in bathrooms. I spoke to two girls who stayed there and they said it was comfortable and the breakfast was very good

Tea making in room, guest lounge with TV and tabby kitten, they also have dogs. The breakfast almost sank me, but I was was so good. Local produce used and listed on breakfast menu. Lovely house, Edwardian I think, with big spacious rooms, old possibly antique furniture. I was there around breakfast time and it smelt wonderful! Guests of several nationalities appeared smiling, from the dining room, as I was shown around.

THE OLD STABLES Hurlingpot Farm

1 double ensuite, 30 single occupancy 1 twin ensuite.

Maureen, a very pleasant lady, greeted me and showed me round the converted barn/stables, and upstairs to the two letting rooms. Nicely decorated and furnished and tucked up under the roof - 2 Velux windows and no vodaphone signal unless I stood on the bed with my head out of the roof light! The bed was so comfy, with cotton bedlinen, sheer luxury. Very good breakfast at big table with the two girls who stayed at Burnt House the previous night. The Old Stables is beautifully restored, clean, spacious and friendly. There is a large lounge which may be used by the guests - the family also use it. The letting rooms are up one staircase from the main hall and dining room, the family accommodation is up the other light oak
staircase. A very different feel here from Burnt House, but excellent
standards in both.

The staff are very friendly & there is ample car parking, Redecoration occurring at the time of my visit, some were a little tired in places, but clean and welcoming generally. Cosy bar with log fire, several small interlinked eating areas, separate dining room.
